Philanthropy Advice

Do you want to make a difference and don’t know where to start? Do you want to involve your family in your giving? Is it time to review your foundation’s strategy? Are you looking to ramp up your philanthropy? Whatever your starting point, I can help you get the most from your giving.

Getting started

Through guided conversations, tools and workshops and lots of listening, I help you identify your values, motivations and aspirations and consider potential areas of focus. Exploring these fundamentals will help you develop a plan to guide your philanthropy. This early work may include involving your whole family or conducting scoping studies to inform your decisions.

“We feel much more knowledgeable and are excited about our philanthropy journey ahead.”

“I love the way you work with families and that it’s about relationships and exploring the big questions.”

One-off projects

Sometimes you need extra capacity or a specific task completed. Recent projects have included facilitating a strategy away day, supporting the transition from one generation to the next, conducting a governance review and reviewing a grant programme.

“Thank you for guiding us in such a bespoke way. The mark of an excellent consultant is to take the theory and their experience and apply it to the client’s very specific circumstances and make them understand how they can get to where they need to be. In my experience, very few manage the bespoke. You have done it masterfully.”

- Laura Serratrice, The James Tudor Foundation

Ongoing support

You have your roadmap and I can help you to turn this into action. Sometimes this is connecting you with experts and potential partners. It can mean setting up grant programmes, assessing proposals or managing donations. Or it may be about deciding how best to involve your children, how to measure your impact, or recruiting staff. Regular check-ins and mentor sessions will help keep you on track.

“You've been a brilliant support and guide to us.”

Bespoke training

I provide training sessions for private client teams who want to learn more about philanthropy and keep up to date with current issues and debates. I also deliver training on how to give philanthropy advice as well as specific topics such as, how to choose which organisation to give your funds to, or looking at power issues in philanthropy. All my training is fully tailored and interactive.

“Emma’s workshop was great. She gave us lots of ideas but also did a fantastic job of getting our team to share their own thoughts about how to provide valuable philanthropic advisory support to our clients”
