My motivation as a philanthropy advisor is to encourage wealth holders to give with thought, care and intention. The key value that underpins all my work is respect:

  • ensuring those with funds to give do so in a way that respects the expertise and effort of those working for social good and the communities they serve;

  • listening carefully and providing options, ideas, information and challenge to ensure my clients give in ways that align with their values and meet their goals.

My background is working in the UK charity sector. I have many years experience in grant-making including managing programmes for national funders BBC Children in Need and Lloyds Bank Foundation.

In 2015, I established Emma Beeston Consultancy to provide an independent philanthropy advice service to couples, families, businesses and foundations. I am a 21/64 Certified Advisor and work within their Principles of Practice. I am a member of the National Network of Consultants to Grantmakers and adhere to their Code of Ethical Conduct.

Alongside my consultancy practice, I teach on two masters programmes: the Masters in Philanthropic Studies at the University of Kent and Bayes Business School’s Masters in Philanthropy, Grantmaking and Social Investment.
